Be a part of Puerto Rico’s Rebirth -- Help #SendHopeToPR
The recent natural disaster and humanitarian crises in Puerto Rico caused by Hurricane Maria have turned the lives of thousands of people into disarray. Millions of children and families are fearful and overwhelmed with uncertainty in the face of the devastation.
I was born and raised in Puerto Rico under a perpetually sunny sky amidst clear blue Caribbean waters and green mountains. Today, my island is almost unrecognizable and it is heartbreaking.
As the holidays approach, I want us to remember those still struggling to rebuild their lives. I am hosting a Hope for the Holidays Fundraiser on Sunday, December 3, 2017, and am asking for your support.
As we prepare to sit around the table to give thanks, let us not forget the children of Puerto Rico who have lost so much this year and may have little to celebrate this Christmas season. We can make a difference; we can give them hope, but I need your help.
I am asking my friends, family, colleagues, and partners, as well as those who simply want to make a difference, to help raise money to #SendHopetoPR and make this Christmas a memorable and joyful holiday for the children in Puerto Rico.
Hope for the Holidays will be held on Sunday, December 3rd at La Taberna del Alabardero restaurant, located at 1776 I Street, NW in Washington, DC, from 5:00-8:00 pm.
The event will include a raffle and silent auction, featuring items from the Washington Capitals, Blue Dog Painting, WagTime, Gala Theatre, Via Umbria, and more. La Trulla Navideña with Rafael Ortiz y El Tumbao Urbano will perform traditional Puerto Rican music. We’ll also recognize the extraordinary efforts of CBS News correspondent David Begnaud and present him with the Hero Award for his outstanding coverage to keep us consistently informed.
All fundraising proceeds will go to our event partner, the Hispanic Federation (501c3), which will buy the gifts and toys and distribute all items to children on the island during the Christmas and Three Kings holiday.
I need your support. Please join us on December 3rd to help #SendHopeToPR.
