María José (MJ) Sandoval

Media Relations, Account Executive

MJ coordinates public relations and digital marketing efforts for campaign activations which include media planning and outreach, content creation across multi-media platforms, and social media implementation for all clients.

What would you say is one of your finest moments, something you’re very proud of?
My top proud moment was walking up to receive my college degree diploma and my mother being there to watch it. She worked hard to put me through college as a single mother of three and was able to witness the fruits of her hard work. Yes, I was afraid to trip on stage.

What do you like most about working at Comunicad?
As cliché as it sounds, the people I work with. Working beside colleagues that empower women, mentor and help each other grow professionally makes me want to leave my bed every morning and share my coffee with them

If you had to live on a deserted island, besides your family, what would you miss most?
I would miss Netflix. That comes with Wi-Fi access and TV. That’s when I relax the most. Getting off the island, first I’d build a shack to get some personal time and then I would apply some Bear-Gryll-meets-MacGyver survival skills to start a fire, spell out a massive message (obviously applying some awesome copywriting) and build a raft to get to a passing boat/cruise (I hope the cruise rescues me).

What are some of your pet-peeves?
I can’t stand people who bite their nails and people who constantly talk over others.

What do you like to do during your free time?
In my spare time I like to travel as much as possible.
I am into contemporary art, museums, galleries, indie films, performances, concerts, and plays. I like to do photography, read a lot, find, and shop at bookstores and vintage stores.

Prior to joining Comunicad, MJ worked as a Communications Specialist for CASA, a non-profit organization that helps Latino and low-income families in the US. Before arriving to Washington, DC area in 2013 from Honduras, she had the opportunity to work at UN Women, USAID, and World Vision. MJ holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Advertising with a concentration in audiovisual production from the Central American Technological University (UNITEC) in Honduras.
